Wagtail High Flyer Review

Is The Wagtail High Flyer Worth Buying?

The Wagtail High Flyer 14” is a great traditional window cleaning tool for commercial high level window cleaning, interior window cleaning or rope access cleaning. Having the applicator and squeegee combined into one easy to use tool is more efficient and safer if your secured to a rope 70ft in the air. Honest review of window cleaning items that we have personally used in our work window cleaning in Surrey.

Wagtail High Flyer (why is it called Wagtail?)

Window cleaning tools seem to have interesting names. This squeegee can swirl from the handle and the channel hence the name wagtail (but that is just my guess) The “wagtail” action where the channel can swivel as you turn the handle is smooth. There are other traditional window cleaning tools that have the same function like the Moerman EASE Ultimate, the Moerman Excelerator. Please click here for a full review of the Moerman EASE Ultimate. When you compare the Wagtail with the stingray for example, you get a better clean when you use an applicator and squeegee than a spray and pad method. A light spray and pad is fine for weekly commercial cleaning but when the dirt builds up over a month than you can leave smears especially when the sun shines on the glass. When the sun shines on the glass than any marks will show up. It is important to have a good rubber to avoid turn marks (we will be reviewing different runners in a future blog) click the category side bar to read other reviews of window cleaning products.

Squeegee to Applicator Switch

How does the Wagtail high flyer 14” switch? The “switch” from applicator to squeegee is unique, the wagtail high flyer pivots from the handle to switch from the applicator to squeegee. Not the easiest to use as the squeegee is connected close to the back of the applicator pad, therefore when you look at the Wagtail you can not see the squeegee. That makes your accurate worse when trying to find the corners of the glass you are cleaning.

The Wagtail Applicator Pad

The Wagtail applicator pad is probably the worse part of the Wagtail. It is thin and poor to use because it can not hold much water or dirt. For light maintenance window cleaning removing light dusting of glass it will work fine. Some professional window cleaners have said that they replace the pad with the Moerman fliq applicator pad which is more robust but why buy a window cleaning tool if you plan to upgrade it anyway? That would be your decision and whatever your preference is when commercial window cleaning.

Wagtail High Flyer VS Moerman EASE Ultimate

When you compare the two window cleaning tools you see that both have their positives and negatives. Having used both we preferred the Moerman EASE Ultimate mainly because the fliq pad was much better. The Wagtail also has a light plastic feel to it but what works for one window cleaner might not work for another. Research as much as you can before you purchase a squeegee and applicator combination because they are not cheap at around £50. Ask yourself to you need the Wagtail? Would the pole and pad work better for your jobs?
